PET AURA PORTRAIT SESSIONS

These private studio sessions are offered exclusively at our studio in Detroit, Michigan and on occasion at specified pet only residencies and pop ups.

Please note these pet only sessions are quite different than our sessions with humans, so please read through the information below to see if this will be a good fit for your furry family member.

At this time, we are only taking sessions with dogs. However, if you have an adventurous cat who loves to leave home, feels comfortable in new spaces and meeting new people without trying to hide or runaway, please get in touch!

PET SESSIONS: WHAT TO EXPECT

  • We utilize a rare analog Pet Sensor designed specifically to pick up the energy field of dogs and cats, that was created by a German Engineer as a add on to Guy Coggins’ professional packfilm based legacy camera back in the late 90s/early 2000s. From our understanding, we have the only pet sensor of it’s kind, in existence that is still working, which makes these pet aura portrait sessions incredibly special and exclusive to AURA AURA.

  • The hand sensors we use for regular human aura portraits do not actually depict a pet’s true aura as it was designed specifically for humans. The hand sensors were created to pick up on the energy field of human beings only, which is why pet aura photography requires special equipment. We do not photograph humans and pets together.

  • Your pet must be able to sit still for approx. 5-10 seconds with their two front paws on a metal plate for each image shot. This is what is reading your pet’s energy and is a crucial part of this process. A bright light will also be shining on them, but no flash! You will be placed right next to your pet during their session, and will be involved in the process of helping them stay comfortable and posed in position if needed.

  • While we understand when a pet has 2 parents or owners, both most likely want to come to the session. However, in our experience, it is typically best if only 1 owner comes to the session, as the second owner often times becomes a distraction - especially if your pet tends to be playful which can make the session process difficult as your pet becomes over-stimulated in a new environment. This ultimately is your personal choice, just know that we want to make you aware prior to booking, what our best practices are, based on experience with other clients and previous sessions.

  • Depending on the size of your pet, they will either be posed on the pet sensor plate on a plush, cozy rug on the ground, or will be placed on a sturdy 2’ x 2’ podium approx. 1.5 feet off the ground. The metal plate is roughly the size of a laptop computer, and fits the two front paws of all dogs and cats.

  • Organic treats, fresh water and calming aids such as hemp treats will be complimentary and available during the session for your pet’s convenience. If your pet has special treats they prefer, we suggest you bring them! However, if your pet tends to get overly excited in new spaces, has anxiety around unfamiliar people, this experience may not be the best fit for them.

  • Pet portrait sessions are 50 minutes / $360 per session - with approx. 30 minutes for the actual photoshoot, and 20 minutes for arrival, departure, discussion and getting comfortable. Please note this timeline is approximate - each session’s flow may differ slightly.

  • Since we are shooting with out-of-production professional packfilm, every single shot we take literally counts. With each session, we will take two individual posed shots of your pet. You will leave with the physical film portraits and receive hi-res digital scans by email.

  • Prior to your pet’s session, please make sure that your pet is groomed to your liking, nails trimmed, and that any potty breaks are taken prior to arrival. Once you park, we recommend taking your dog on a short walk around the block, as it is important we prevent any accidents from occurring when ever possible.

  • 10% of net proceeds from pet portrait sessions are donated to an animal non-profit locally in Metro Detroit such as Rebel Dogs Detroit, Detroit Dog Rescue, or Friends of Detroit Animal Care and Control and also locally in cities that Eileen visits for commissioned residencies. Thank you so much for helping us support those who give back to and invest in our beloved animals!
